EKG Tech III – Cardiovascular Services – East Orlando – On Call

AdventHealth East Orlando seeks to hire an EKG Tech III who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Florida Hospital East Orlando, a 293-bed full service community hospital that serves as one of Florida Hospital’s seven satellite facilities, became part of the Florida Hospital system in 1990. Days Variable Sun – Sat, Hours Variable 9-hr shift



Job Summary:

The EKG Tech III independently performs diagnostic quality ECGs, SAECG, and Holter monitor hook-ups. Recognizes and alerts appropriate personnel to lethal arrhythmias and unstable hemodynamics. Processes Holter data, assists with physician billing and staff scheduling. Manages ECGs in database. Under direct supervision of an RN and/or physician, performs exercise and pharmacologic cardiac stress testing. Takes charge of other staff and students as directed by department supervisor/ manager. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Ability to read and write legibly and perform basic mathematical functions
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Computer knowledge and skills
  • Monitor Tech competency for stress testing duties
  • Experience performing stress testing
  • High School diploma or General Education diploma (Preferred)
  • Experience with Philips and/or Mortara ECG machines (Preferred)
  • Experience with Cerner Electronic Medical Records (Preferred)
  • Experience performing ECGs in a hospital setting (Preferred)
  • Allied health training program certificate of completion or student verification letter or educational transcripts (Preferred)
  • Completion of educational program in ECG, Holter monitoring and stress testing (Preferred)



Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
  • All hires after June 2008:
  • Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) from Cardiac Credentialing International, OR
  • Must possess and maintain one of the following State of Florida licensures:
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Paramedic



Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior AdventHealth’s Core Values of Keep Me Safe, Love Me, Make it Easy, and Own it as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program.
  • Quality: Performs diagnostic electrocardiograms, positions and applies electrodes in proper location, identifies and corrects for wandering, interference, and artifact, appropriately applies Holter Monitors, and obtains all necessary information for proper interpretation.
  • Effective and Efficient Care: Independently performs diagnostic ECG testing, manages unmatched list in a timely manner, responds appropriately and in a timely manner to all patient orders, manages time and equipment effectively, and maintains patient confidentiality as required by HIPPA.
  • Assessment: Identifies patients using by using the 2 FH acceptable identifiers, name and date of birth, communicates abnormal findings to the nurse and or physician in a timely manner, and ensures that an order or a prescription is present for the EKG and or Holter Monitor.
  • Documentation: Accurately documents and reports all procedures in accordance with department expectations. Enters all patient demographic information accurately, and downloads, edits and faxes Holter Monitor information in a timely manner. Assists as needed with various office responsibilities including physician billing, responding to phone inquiries and fax requests.
  • Safety: Follows isolation guidelines, appropriately uses PPE, and performs hand washing according to FH policy. Cleans equipment according to FH policies and procedures.
  • Communication: Communicates with patients and their family members according to their age and understanding. Explains procedures in a way that the receiver can understand. Completes all assignments and communicates pending items with the appropriate staff member. Openly receives instructions and guidance from fellow staff, supervisors and managers.
  • Process Improvement: Provides suggestions to improve department and hospital processes and participates in process improvement projects.
  • Professional Growth: Provides goals on employee input form that lead to growth opportunities. Assists with clinical instructions and serves as a resource to less experienced employees and new personnel. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
  • Stress Testing: Assists with scheduling, room preparation, turn-around, and supply restocking. Transfers and attends to patients within department and obtains patient history and completes stress lab flow sheet. Prior to the start of stress test, notifies nurse and/or physician of patient history information with potential to impact exam. Prior to cardiac stress testing, obtains baseline ECG and blood pressure. Under personal supervision of a physician, performs exercise and pharmacologic cardiac stress testing. Under direct supervision of an RN or physician, monitors patients during stress test recovery phase. Monitors patients during stress test recovery period.
