Data & Charge Entry

JOB SUMMARY

The Data/Charge Entry person is responsible for collecting applicable co-pays, deductible and/or coinsurance amounts from patients; posting payments; scheduling return office visits and presenting patient with after visit summary.

*If working in a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Practice, the following additional standards apply:

Our team continuously works with the quality team and practice coaches to implement and maintain NCQA/PCMH standards.

•       Participates in educational sessions to improve skills as appropriate

•       Participates in the collection of quality data

•       Assists clinical staff providers with providing patients with outside resources and materials

•       Assists in identifying and documenting cultural and linguistic needs of patients

•       Assists in identifying and documenting advanced directives

•       Assists clinical staff and providers with obtaining ER and Hospital information

•       Assists in arranging follow up appointments as indicated by clinical staff and providers

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to sit, walk, climb, stand, turn, twist, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, lift at least 25 lbs, carry, finger, hold, talk, see with a good field of vision, and hear; Communicate on the telephone and directly with patients; read paperwork, printouts and computer screens; Requires manual dexterity sufficient to maintain files, operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier and other small desk equipment and computer.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Basic knowledge and ability in medical business office procedures.  A basic knowledge of coding and the ability to use the necessary coding books and materials. Skill in operating a computer and photocopy machine.  Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone in a professional, pleasant and helpful manner.  Ability to speak clearly and concisely.  Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction.  Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.  Ability to type 40 words per minute accurately. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

1.    High school graduate or equivalent.

2.    One year of ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding experience preferred.

3.    Experience with computers required.

4.    Must be willing to float to other AHMG practices, within reason, when patient load, vacation schedules etc. make it necessary.

5.    Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements.
