Work Hours/Shift:

Full Time / Days

You Will Be Responsible For:

•         Assists surgeon with the handling of instruments and the positioning of patients.

•         Plans and prepares for all surgical procedures,

•         Pulling of cases

•         Updating preference cards

•         Ordering supplies

•         Maintaining instruments

•         Constantly monitors the surgical environment to assure patient and staff safety by:

•         Moving patient using proper body mechanics

•         Maintaining an organized sterile field

•         Performs surgical hand scrub, according to hospital policy

•         Performs accurate sponge, sharps, and instrument counts.

•         Sets up, tests, and connects all specialty equipment.

•         Reports malfunctioning equipment to Clinical Manager in a timely manner.

•         Adheres to the Association of Operating Room Nurses Standards and Recommended Practices.

•         Assists in cleaning rooms after cases.

•         Prepares for cases by reading, collaborating with peers, making sure all necessary supplies and equipment are in the room before the case starts

•         Puts unused supplies up during downtime periods.

•         Develops self professionally and participates in department activities.

•         Perform clerical and secretarial duties; to assist nursing staff and assist team members in providing quality patient care in a safe and efficient manner.

•         Responsible for the efficiency of the ordering process including accounting for quantities and agreed pricing, communicating within and outside of the department, any problems questions and possible solutions related to purchases.

•         Coordinates special equipment needs with the Director of Surgical Services or the designated charge nurse.


Qualifications

What You Will Need:

•         High School diploma or GED

•         Completion of Scrub Tech training or program

•         2 years OR experience required

•         Current certificate in BCLS

•         Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist

•         Completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service.

•         Was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009; or in the service of the federal government , to the extent the person is performing duties related to that service.

Job Summary:

The Certified Surgical Technologist will provide surgical assistance to the physician, maintain equipment and supplies, and plan and organize case preparation, maintain case preference cards, assist with scheduling surgical procedures when necessary, while promoting quality perioperative care of the patient.

The OR Purchaser will be responsible for the efficiency of the ordering process including accounting for quantities and agreed pricing, communicating within and outside of the department to include Material Management department and vendors, any problem questions and possible solutions related to purchases. The OR Purchaser researches, evaluates and purchases services, supplies and equipment based on price, service, quality and warranty to meet the needs of the O.R.  signs purchase orders; accuracy and risk management; prepares and maintains relevant contact files.

•         Effective communication among employees, and between employees, patients, visitors and supervisors is essential to ensure quality patient care and to avoid misunderstanding, errors and miscommunications which could have a detrimental effect on the health, safety and well-being of patients and co-workers.  In addition to these communication and safety concerns, individuals in this position must be able to effectively review patient and related medical records, understand nurse and/or physician verbal and written instructions, read labels of medications, read safety information, and hazardous chemicals.  Therefore, to prevent misunderstandings, errors, and miscommunications in the provision of quality patient care and other job-related services, employees in this position are required to have the capability of fluently speaking, reading, and writing English.

•         Has the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Has the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

•         Must have some knowledge and experience in performing the duties associated with:

•         Knowledge of AORN standards.

•         Effective interpersonal and patient contact skills.

•         Completion of BCLS.

•         Knowledge of Universal Safety Precautions as defined by OSHA.

•         Able to anticipate surgeon’s instrumentation needs.

•         Must have some computer experience

•         Must be able to work in a fast-paced and customer service-oriented environment; to perform duties under pressure and meet deadlines in a timely manner; to work as part of a team as well as to complete assignments independently; to take instruction from supervisors; to exercise problem-solving skills; and to interact with co-workers, supervisors, guest, patients and the public in a professional and pleasant manner.
